Hiking in the Misty Mountains

Living in Switzerland, hiking is a must. After a long period of stable and clear weather, Lars set out to hike a part of the Hardergrat (Harder ridge). For this exercise, Jan was swapped out for Jane.

Unfortunately, the weather changed on the day before the hike. Rain, rain, rain… For the Hardergrat hike, this is a problem since the ridge gets very slippery when whet. The rain stopped during the night before the hike, so we decided to try our planned route in reverse. Instead of starting at Harder Kulm, we started at Habkern and then gained about 1000 meters altitude hiking up to Augstmatthorn. Meeting the Ibex colony at the top of the mountain was a breathtaking experience. Unfortunately, the view from the peak was less breathtaking, due to fog… From Augstmatthorn, we followed the Hardergrat ridge back to Harder Kulm. In total, the hike took a bit more than five hours.

It was definitely a relief for the body to take the furnicular down to Interlaken at the end of the hike and then cool down our feet in the Aare.
