Yesterday evening, I (Jan) was informed about being de-selected from Saturday's crew in the Men's Eight!
I would like to thank all people who have sent me messages urging me not to despair and get (too) depressed about this.
As it turns out, there is actually a positive reason behind this, which is supposed to be a secret, but I was happy to "find" (it got sent to me by person who realised my tough situation) via wikileaks. I am sharing with you here, so that you also do not have to worry:
Timenumber: 20190817091412 [note: after last Saturday's coached rowing session]
Coach: Who is that guy on place 5 with the big nose?
Nordiska president: That would be Janne. Why do you ask?
Coach: Well, during exercise he squares up a bit late and catches a bit early, but once team is asked to go up to more of race pace and apply power, his technique is perfect, power is applied in a perfect way and the whole move just looks incredibly athletic.
Nordiska president: Yeah, we know, but we never tell him. We also reduce the amount of intervals and regattas to avoid him getting too full of himself.
Coach: I see... <smiles>
Nordiska president: He is obviously in the team which will represent the club in the upcoming interclub-regatta.
Coach: Obviously. I would recommend not having more in the eight before that, as we should not risk disturbing this perfect application of power.
Nordiska president: Hmm... ok.
So, as you can see, there is a positive reason for the situation. I was supposed not to know, but happy that I do.
I hope the training without me will be great... I really do... Really...
