In the Queue of Our Fathers

The first Sunday in March is the time for Vasaloppet: the oldest, longest, and biggest cross-country skiing race. An opportunity too good to be missed for Lars. It is a massive experience to be with 15,000 other cross-country skiers at (or, to be more precise, a few hundred meters behind) the starting line at 08:00. The weather this year was adverse: heavy snowfall and heavy headwind the entire 90 kilometers from Sälen to Mora. As a result, the elite skied one hour slower than their record time, and so did Lars: coming in just below rank 9,000 was his best ever finish in the race. On the way, he passed through the legendary supply stations and had the mandatory cups of blueberry soup together with some broth and a piece of the classic “Vasaloppet bun”. Maybe Jan will join next year?
