Nordic Open - Indoor Rowing Championships 2023

On Saturday 2023-02-11, five heroes from Nordiska set out to defend our colours in the Open Nordic Indoor rowing championship. We could participate remotely and decided to do so out of our nice club house.

This was the first time Nordiska participated in this event and we were in fact one of the clubs with the most race starts. (In the men's 2000 m race, 3 out of 8 participants were from Nordiska.)

Also in the medal tables we managed to make impress:

Jani bronze in 1000 m for men (3:03.5 min)

Rikke silver in 200 m for women (36.8 s; video: Rikke 200 m race)

Jani bronze in 200 m for men (31.1 s; video: Jani 200 m race)

Rikke competing in the 200 m race. Jani observing and Suzanne keeping the erg from moving due to all the power being applied.

Jani preparing for upcoming 200 m race, with Rikke recovering from hers. (You might have thought it's the other way around.)

The relay team. Tired, but happy.

Towards the end of the day, we (Joonas, Lennart, Jan and Jani) participated in a 2000 m relay with changes every 500 meters (relay race video). Our 15 minute practice on how to swap rowers really paid off and we finished the rae in second place! Unfortunately due to a weight-discriminating handicap system we were shifted downwards in the end result.

The day ended with some stretching, sauna, shower and a very nice dinner where Sebastian had arranged the food and we all cooked.

 Also happy in the kitchen!
